The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin along with the Ascension of Our Blessed Lord, crowns our faith in the objective completion of the work of Redemption, and gives our hope a new guarantee.

There is a very intimate connection between compassion and motherhood, for the deepest compassion is that of a mother, and Mary would not have been a worthy mother of the Redeemer had she been lacking in conformity of will with His redemptive oblation.

Since Mary was associated very intimately with Jesus with His perfect victory over Satan, it follows that she was associated also with Him in His triumph, His victory over sin and over death, which is the consequence of sin.

Happy day, which transferred such a precious gift from the desert of this world and so brought it to the holy and eternal city, that universal and unbelievable joy and wonder was caused among all the heavenly beings.

Happy day, which so satisfied the continual and ardent desires of the languishing spouse, that what she sought she found, and what she asked for she received, what she hoped for, she securely possessed, and, without any doubt, rejoiced completely in that perfect vision and enjoyment of the supreme and eternal good.

Happy day, which raised up and exalted the humble handmaid of the Lord to such eminence that she became the most glorious Queen of Heaven and Mistress of the world! Higher indeed she could not ascend, since she was exalted to the very throne of the kingdom and seated in glory next to Christ.

In the glory where thou reigns, clothed in the sun and crowned with the stars, thou art, after Jesus, the joy and the happiness of all the angels and saints; and we on this earth, who pass as pilgrims comforted by faith in future resurrection, look to thee, our life, our sweetness and our hope.
Draw us with the sweetness of thy voice and show unto us, one day, after this our exile, the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O most Holy Mother of God, Queen assumed into Heaven, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ!
