A Spring in our Steps

Actiones nostras, quaesumus Domine, aspirando praeveni et adiuvando prosequere: ut cuncta nostra oratio et operatio a te semper incipiat, et per te coepta finiatur. Per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.

So goes the prayer that is prayed everyday at Pretiosa during the Office for the Sisters, and in the “Prayers Before School” for the girls in St Dominic’s. In it we beseech God to “direct… our prayers and our actions by [His] holy inspirations and carry them on by [His] gracious assistance,” so that “every work (and prayer) of ours may always begin from [Him], and by [Him] be happily ended.”

The last few weeks have been busy indeed, not just with the flowers bursting into bloom and the bees picking up their activity, but also in the events that have enriched the life of all here in Wanganui.

The Annual School Fundraiser was held on 21st September this year. Thank you for all your support and helping us meet our quotas for the Bike-a-thon!
Before the event, some of the girls set off to the Velodrome from the school in groups, led by some brave Sisters who volunteered to lead them on their bikes.
All the bikers (it’s really only one quarter of them!) get ready for the starting signal.
For some of the bikers, riding around the Velodrome is a breeze. For others, the winds are a bit of a hindrance. Still, both the Sisters and girls did their best in raising funds for the school.
The Sisters also sent a contingent to take part in the Pilgrimage to Paraparaumu.
They walked, prayed and sang the praises of Our Lady through fields, parks, beaches and roads.
Carrying banners, flags and the Processional Cross.
Even the youngest pilgrims decided that a pilgrim’s staff was essential.
Destination: Our Lady of Lourdes at Paraparaumu.
We had a basketball competition on the Friday following the Feast of the Holy Rosary.
Competition was intense.
The teams battled it out on the court, with their supporters cheering them on from the sidelines.
Emotions run high as the teams vie with each other to score the most goals.
The winning team with their trophy after the final game.

May God continue to help and bless us, so we may indeed purify our hearts and intentions, and do everything for love of Him. After all, it is only in God that “we live and move and have our being” (Acts of the Apostles 17:28). Let us sing with the psalmist: “Blessed is the man whose help is from thee: in his heart he hath disposed to ascend by steps, in the vale of tears, in the place which he hath set (Ps 83:6).”
